it is no exaggeration to say that ultrastretch has accumulated an array of outstanding releases and artists since its creation in 2011. one knows that being as renown a representative of the underground music scene as sammy dee is, he can easily sign music from any established artist he would like, the so called ‘big names’, however, when we look at the past seven releases on ultrastretch, the agenda here seems to be another. what has become an apparent and admirable feature of this label/platform and of sammy dee himself is his clear support for new music from young and yet to be discovered talents. it is on that note that ultrastretch 08 brings you romanian artist crihan. hailing from a small town close to cluj, alin crihan moved to bucharest in 2009 to be more in touch with the underground scene and music in the capital as it poses more opportunities for him to grow and develop. from dj’ing in the most various clubs in his home country, his first steps into western europe as a dj came earlier last year at no less than the legendary robert johnson club alongside petre inspirescu in frankfurt. producing under his real name for the past four years, crihan’s release for ultrastretch brings two tracks, setting the listener into two very distinctive paths. the a side, * uelden* is a dance floor oriented track. the first words to come to mind are groove and rhythm, giving the track a somewhat funky feeling overall. the elements have been crafted carefully and therefore appropriately placed just where and when you need them. by simply starting the track with a bass line and shuffling hihats he slowly develops to a journey that not onlyventures further into groove and rhythm but also in mind grabbing harmonies with deep/airy sounding pads giving it a comforting sense of beauty and obscurity. the b side is called a doua dimensiune, literally translated from romanian it means the second dimension. doing justice to the title the track does generate the feeling of being in another dimension. it is a very deep affair into mind-altering soundscapes, very atmospheric and at times dark and obscure. attention to detail is apparent judging by the overlayering of elements featured in this track. a constant rolling base formed of water tapping ambient sounds give way to harmonies made up of strings and random noises on top.

the second release from the hlanganani label lives up to its mo to provide a platform for talented producers from south africa to shine, focusing here on deep sixty, aka young and fast-rising producer johannesburg producer thabiso mamogwa. back in 2010, the producer made it to london to take part in the red bull music academy, which is when the hlang team first heard the tracks that make up the mme hayo ep whilst some studio time on the same trip with todd soundmurderer osborn resulted in the thursday nights track which mamogwa previously self-released. in addition to deep sixty s own deep terror mix of mme hayo, the label have coaxed some fine remixes out of esa and william kouam djoko.

herzblut is the musical platform of the bremen based techno producer stephan bodzin. its artistic focus is on contemporary techno music refusing any barriers. worldwide exclusive distribution. label logo, art and sound samples enclosed. the mysterious fledgling producer had already impressed the label family with early demos and it wasnt long before stephan, having road-tested the tracks, was snapping them up for herzblut.

originally a weekly broadcast radio show on the dutch-based xt3 radio, reclaim your city (ryc) gained its reputation as a highly acclaimed podcast series with its headquarters in berlin. since 2012, eighty-eight podcasts have been published from some of the biggest names in contemporary techno, jeroen search, adriana lopez, fabrizio lapiana, exium and jonas kopp to name a few. with such success through its podcast series, ryc has decided to take matters to the next level and establish a label using its powerful concept as a platform.

gravitas, talib kwelis sixth solo album, began to take shape in may, during the weeks following the release of kwelis fifth solo album, prisoner of conscious. loaded with guests, prisoner of conscious was well received and reviewed, and gained talib many new fans to add to his already large following. however, kweli soon found himself wanting to record more personal material and really document his journey thru music. when singer ryan leslie, who created the platform that kweli is using to sell gravitas, approached him with the idea of selling direct to fan, songs that were just rough ideas began to fully form in kwelis head.

bristol music has always stood strongest as an alternative to the lowest common denominator, and so it is with brstl as the label continues to provide a platform to previously undiscovered talent in the underbelly of the citys flourishing house scene. following lauded debuts from shanti celeste and jay l, the sixth installment in the series turns to another unknown in the shape of samuel. as with other releases on brstl, 006 is made up of two distinct halves. on the a-side, >numberuma< delivers machine driven house of a rugged and charming nature. the drums switch up with playful intent but largely centre around a forward-charging 4/4 pulse with a faint hint of tropical flavour rubbed into the groove. meanwhile the limber lead keys speak of sunnier days through a cracked lens while the accompanying chord swells intone an equally uplifting and nostalgic message. while from the outset the track may be wrought from simple ingredients, the dynamic interplay between the different elements belies the producers years. on the flip, >groove therapy< opts for a more esoteric approach made up of long, dreamy lead-ins full of distant pads and delicate percussion and transitions as smooth as silk. indeed this track makes a smart foil to >numberuma<, choosing to snake its way into the subconscious through delicate melodic content and an undulating beat rather than rambunctious rhythm. slow-release filters draw that aforementioned pad in before sending it out to sea once more, and all the while the stripped back drums tick out a hypnotic chant. once again a pair of unique tracks loaded with character prove brstl to be an essential outpost for the most creative 4/4 music emanating from the west country.

alexander kowalski is someone you should know. not only is he a resident artist at our club, but with uncountable eps and several albums on heiko laux label kanzleramt and others, he has contributed more to electronic music than many others. to have a separate platform for the darker and harder productions of his, he created the alias d_func. a while ago. when he approached us with the tracks that are now on the record in hand, we immediately fell in love with the mills-like energy of them. perfect drum programming, driving synth lines two perfect tools for any proper techno set. the dirt mix of revalism which is included in the digital release package puts the original in a more modern jacket with its stompy beat – another proof of how well alexander knows what the djs need to please their crowd.let the dancefloors burn!

dungeon meat is the new label and production outfit brought to you by dungeon masters brawther and tristan da cunha. packing a serious punch, its aim is to present tracks designed specifically to rock the party and shake the sound system. originally conceived as a platform for their own musical visions it soon became apparent that they would have to open the doors to a select few who shared their ambition to make no messing, hard hitting house grooves. one of these artists is the mysterious blunt instruments who has the honour of kicking off the label. after road testing his huge club hammer hold back brawther and da cunha knew it had to be on dungeon meat as it epitomised exactly the sound they wanted to present. hold back has been a firm fixture in their sets and even got cut to dubplate by jeremy underground paris. its not all about the a-side though as blunt instruments craft 2 other killer club cuts for the flip side we wont go on too much trying to describe how good this ep is ... instead well let the music do the talking

after some sort of slumber, shabu recordings is proud to present its new series: sharmx. sharmx is pretty self-explanatory: these eps will be a retrospective that breathes new life into tracks from previous releases. these born-again tracks are then presented under a new form that is dictated by another party, not previously involved in any creative process of the affiliated release. the word shabu being japanese for splash, this leads us to our first installment in the series: splash splash vol.1

a three-armed entity consisting of sagat,&apos, and walrus, bepotel build sonic landscapes. hazy or sparkling, their sound is a portal to digital emotions, their interpretations of widescreen sympathy, lukewarm spandex conviviality, of miscalculated disorder. with previous releases for meakusma, the brussels based label/artist-platform lamadameaveclechien, as well as their own eponymous imprint, kikkerkelik marks the trios first release for vlek.
